Apply for the seniority payments allowance
Published on 07 June 2024
The seniority payments allowance rewards dentists over the age of 55 who stay within the NHS and continue to undertake NHS dentistry.
Check if you qualify
To qualify for the seniority payments allowance, you must:
- be 55 years old or over
- have pensionable earnings of £237,000 over the last 10 years
- have run two postgraduate sessions in the previous 15 months
Payment details
The annual maximum seniority payment is £3,928 per quarter. Payment is made one quarter in arrears and can only be backdated for one quarter.
So if you turn 55 in May, this will be paid in the September schedule and not the next available schedule.
If you decide to take receipt of your superannuation benefit, you’ll stop being entitled to seniority payments.
