We run regular events and produce a number of resources to support the continued education and development of professionals working in blood transfusion.

Animation resources

This educational animation describes how the blood product anti-D immunoglobulin is used during pregnancy and following birth to reduce risk for individuals who are blood group D negative and any babies that they may carry. The story follows the character Lucy through her anti-D in pregnancy journey. This resource has been produced by the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service.

The following animation episodes have been developed by the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service’s, Transfusion Team.

This resource is for all clinical healthcare staff involved in shared decision making and the provision of patient information for blood transfusion support.

This resource was developed, in response to the guidelines on patient consent for blood transfusion ,published in December 2020, by the expert advisory committee on the Safety of Blood, Tissues and Organs ( SaBTO).

The purpose of these recommendations is to enhance standards for the provision of information about blood transfusion.

This includes the identification of which patients should be consented and when the consent process should take place, the importance of obtaining patients consent through shared decision making and the duration of consent .
