What is National Screening Oversight?

Published on 08 September 2023

National Screening Oversight (NSO) provides oversight and assurance at national level, across all elements of screening. This includes commissioning, quality assurance and implementation of changes or new screening programmes. NSO was established following a recommendation from the 2018 Review of Screening Report.

The sole focus of NSO is on oversight. This means that operational delivery of screening services is separate, and not part of NSO. However NSO can support NHS partners, ask for reviews of some aspects of delivery, and make changes at both local and national level.
