Do we know how many mobile MRI units there are within Scotland that the individual health boards can access? Are these mobile units provided by private companies but funded by NHS for their patients or are they NHS owned mobile MRI units?
Response
We have now completed the search of our records and can provide you with the following information:
Under section 17 of the Freedom of Information Scotland Act, 2002 (FOISA) an organisation does not have to provide that information if it does not hold it. NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) does not know the exact amount of mobile MRI units available to NHS Scotland. These are procured through national framework, NP16923 Imaging Services. This framework has several suppliers that can provide MRI vans, either staffed or unstaffed, to Health Boards (HB’s) that have identified a need for additional capacity or require cover whilst their MRI is inoperative. Scottish Government (SG) funding will pay for 7.5 staffed units that have been identified for use during 2024/25. NSS does not own any mobile MRI units, these units are owned by private companies who have tendered in the above framework.
