Date received – 15 May 25 | Date responded – 06 June 25

Request

Please consider this a request for information under FOISA.

I am looking for information on health board access to the intelligent liver function test (iLFT).

  • How many health boards have access to iLFT?
  • Please share the programme for introducing iLFT across NHS Scotland.
  • What are the current challenges to delivering iLFT across the NHS in Scotland?

Please do get in touch if you need any more information.

Response

We have now completed the search of our records and can provide you with the following information:

Under section 17 of the Freedom of Information Scotland Act, 2002 (FOISA) an organisation does not have to provide that information if it does not hold it. NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) does not have any role in the day-to-day operational management of clinical biochemistry laboratories and have no information on how many Health Boards (HBs) have access to the Intelligent Liver Function test (iLFT). NSS also have no awareness of any programme to introduce iLFT across the NHS in Scotland and are unable to comment on the current challenges on delivering iLFT across Scotland.

The provision of specific diagnostic testing such as iLFT is the responsibility of the 14 Territorial HBs across Scotland who provide care on behalf of their local population. You may wish to contact the Individual HBs who may be able to provide information as they will have awareness as to whether the treatment is available, any plan for future introduction and any barriers:

I trust you will find the information of assistance and if you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

If you are unhappy with any aspect of how we have dealt with your request, you can make representations to us asking us to review the handling of your request.

If you require any further information, please contact the Associate Director Governance and Board Services (Board Secretary) within 40 working days of the date of this correspondence.
