I refer to your freedom of information request that we received on 04 December 2025 requesting the following information:

Having read your response to FOI 2023-000336, I would ask if you can advise how the disposal of beds, bedding and other smaller equipment was carried out.

We have now completed the search of our records and can provide you with the following information:

Bedding

Under Section 17(1) of the Freedom of Information Scotland Act, 2002 an organisation does not have to provide that information if they do not hold it. NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) does not hold the requested information. NSS did award a contract for supply and laundering of bedding. However, the contract was never activated because none of the beds were ever utilised.

Beds and smaller equipment

For beds and smaller equipment managed by NHSScotland Assure Equipping Services:

During decommissioning of NHS Louisa Jordan:

  • loaned items were returned to the respective organisations that supplied them.
  • NHS Scotland Health Boards were invited to submit requests for NHS Louisa Jordan items, detailing their reasons and urgency. Approved requests were fulfilled directly from the NHS Louisa Jordan.
  • items were offered to local education establishments, hospices and other charitable organisations and supplied directly from the NHS Louisa Jordan.
  • a small proportion of items were sold as detailed in FOI-2023-000336.
  • residual items were cleared from the NHS Louisa Jordan to warehouse storage.

Following decommissioning of the NHS Louisa Jordan:

  • NHS Scotland Health Boards continued to submit requests for, and receive, NHS Louisa Jordan items.
  • the available residual stock was promoted through various NHS Scotland national forums, stakeholder groups and external networks to maximise the repurposing and reuse within NHS Scotland.
  • residual stock was next offered to registered charities and some items returned to suppliers for reuse or recycling. Please note items returned to suppliers consisted predominantly of free of charge items or components.
