Details

Although the main purpose is to provide guidance for hospitals, its general principles may have relevance to other healthcare premises in appropriate circumstances. In particular, it draws attention to the key role of management in devising and implementing policies and programmes for dealing with the life-threatening situations presented by fire in an extremely vulnerable environment, and for ensuring that staff at all levels receive appropriate and regular training in fire safety and evacuation procedures.

  • SHTM 83: general fire precautions
  • Part 2: fire safety training

This guidance is applicable to all staff working in NHSScotland premises, those employed by NHSScotland who work in other premises and non-NHS staff who work in NHSScotland premises.

Part 2 supplements SHTM 83 and the suggested timescales for staff training within Part 2 replace those in SHTM 83.
