This Guidance is NHSScotland's response to the Scottish Government’s climate emergency declarations, and has been developed to help NHS boards deliver sustainable performance outcomes across the Healthcare Built Environment (HBE). It outlines essential processes, actions, and standards to mitigate climate-related health impacts and ensure long-term quality and resilience in healthcare infrastructure. The Sustainable Design and Construction (SDaC) Evaluation Toolkit complements this guidance by offering a structured framework for NHS boards. It supports the use of appropriate methodologies, tools, and good practice approaches to meet policy requirements and create resilient, future ready healthcare environments.
