Pregnancy screening

Fetal anomalies

All pregnant women are offered a mid-pregnancy scan between 18 and 21 weeks. The scan checks the physical development of the baby, although it cannot pick up every condition.

In the majority of cases the baby is fine and developing well. Sometimes a minor issue is seen and in rare cases something more serious.
