We manufacture platelets at the Jack Copland Centre (JCC) in Edinburgh.

Packaging and transport

Platelet components are transported in insulated cardboard boxes or Va-Q-Tec boxes using Phase Change Material flasks.

Platelets pooled, in additive and plasma, leucocyte depleted

Parameter & specifications

  • Volume: 160ml-380 mL, CR less than 150ml, greater than 380ml
  • Leucocyte Count: Less than 5 x 10 to the 6 per unit
  • Platelet Count: Greater than or equal to 240 x 10 to the 9 per pack, discard less than 160 to the 9 per pack
