GP locum pension scheme forms

As a GP locum, you can join the NHS pension scheme if you meet the following criteria:

• you are on the medical performers list
• you undertake locum work directly for an NHS GMS, PMS, APMS practice or appraisal work.

GP Locum Superannuation Forms A and B

Firstly, we would like to thank those GP locums and practice managers who have been contributing to the development and trial running of our prototype, digital GP locum superannuation tool. Our aim was to reduce transactional workload on GP locums and their practice managers as well as reduce manual intervention at operator level within Practitioner Services' Contractor Finance department. Our success criteria was to see quicker, more efficient and accurate outcomes / calculations for our GP locum community with less manual effort all round.

Initial development was completed before Christmas 2022 and we have been trial running the digital solution. Unfortunately, there remain many snags with the tool and in order to fully assess these and determine the best way forward for all concerned, we are withdrawing the product. As GP locums have also been submitting their original paper format, alongside the digital form – to provide us comparison for calculations and accuracy - there is no additional work for locums to take on.

We would ask all GP locums to ensure their paperwork is submitted timeously to ensure their superannuation can be assigned to the correct year.

It is unfortunate we have not been able to progress immediately to a full deployment but it is essential we fully understand why the errors found are happening (coding) and how we improve some of the connectivity between Forms A and B plus the onward payment systems.

As soon as we are in a position to trial a successor we will be in touch to seek further input and trials.

Locum pension forms

Locum A and B forms are available for paying superannuation contributions, and must be completed by the 5th of each month.

These include the Form B supplement for money purchase additional voluntary contributions (AVC).

Please check your eligibility for the NHS pension scheme and ensure that forms A and/or B have been approved and you know the necessary amount to pay.
