Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) remains a major public health challenge, with widespread implications across human, animal, and environmental health. The 2024 Scottish One Health Antimicrobial Use and Antimicrobial Resistance (SONAAR) Report highlights Scotland’s continued commitment to a collaborative, evidence-based response to AMR and antimicrobial use (AMU). This year marks the first joint publication by ARHAI Scotland and Public Health Scotland (PHS), reflecting deeper integration of Scotland’s One Health strategy through shared data, expertise, and insight.
The SONAAR approach adopts a comprehensive, evidence-informed strategy to address AMR across healthcare, veterinary, and environmental settings. Drawing on national and international intelligence, it provides robust analysis to support policy development, stewardship, and responsible antimicrobial use. The 2024 report includes intelligence on trends across all three sectors, enabling coordinated action to preserve the effectiveness of antimicrobials and improve population health.
