About Clinical Assurance
Published on 30 July 2025
All NHS boards have a duty to ensure that the premises where it provides healthcare are safe. This also applies during construction projects.
We provide clinical and infection prevention and control (IPC) expertise for the NHSScotland Assure (NHSSA) Assurance service who manage risk in the healthcare built environment across Scotland.
When a new construction project or refurbishment is in its planning stages we will undertake a Key Stage Assurance Review (KSAR) with the Board to ensure that IPC is a key consideration throughout the project lifecycle.
Feedback from construction projects, KSAR reviews and built environment enquiries has allowed us to develop resources and training materials to assist health boards during construction projects. These can be used by staff groups including IPC teams and technical professionals.
