Guide to the Scottish Infected Blood Support Scheme

Who is eligible to join?

The Scottish scheme provides support to people who were infected, as well as their immediate family members.

People infected by hepatitis C and/or HIV, and their families

You can apply for the scheme if you:

  • are resident in Scotland
  • were infected with hepatitis C and/or HIV via NHS blood, blood products or tissues

This includes people who were infected elsewhere in the UK.

Anyone who received the infection from someone who falls into the above groups may also be eligible, if:

  • they are, or were, the spouse or civil partner of the person from whom the virus was transmitted
  • they are, or were, living with the person from whom the virus was transmitted as partners in a long-term relationship
  • they are the child of an infected mother
