Our aims

What we do to assist NHS services in Scotland.

NSS supports customers to deliver their services more efficiently and effectively. We offer shared services on a national scale using best-in-class systems and standards. Our aim is to help our customers save money and free up resources so they can be re-invested into essential services. We also provide consultancy and support to help public bodies join up health and social care.

We aim to achieve this through four strategic objectives:

  • put customers at the heart of everything we do
  • increase our service value
  • improve the way we do things
  • ensure that we're a great place to work.

Our priorities

NSS is playing a crucial and continuing role supporting the remobilisation of NHS Scotland.

Our plans in support of the Remobilise, Recover, Redesign Framework have been approved by Scottish Government. These plans contain the key priorities we will deliver against in support of our partners, our NHS, and the people of Scotland.

For more information read our NSS remobilisation plan and our related correspondence with Scottish Government.

Beyond our role supporting remobilisation, our stakeholders have told us where they need us to prioritise our efforts for the next five years:

  • enabling health and care transformation with new services
  • underpinning NHSScotland with excellent services
  • assisting other organisations involved in health and care.

By connecting with partners and stakeholders in other public bodies, we can use our national position to ensure our services, solutions and programmes of work are aligned to, coordinated with, and enable regional and local activities.

The key to delivering this strategy is to have a workforce that is highly skilled and staff who feel valued and respected. We want to ensure that NSS remains a great place to work, where diversity and differences are celebrated and values based leadership is the norm.

Our document storage and retention policy

Records management is the efficient control of an organisation’s records, throughout their life cycle, to meet:

  • business needs
  • statutory and fiscal requirements
  • community expectations.

It's essential to capture, manage and preserve information in an organised system. Records management allows us to control the number of records produced through 'disposal schedules', which explain the time period different types of records should be retained by an organisation.

In the context of this policy, a document is a record that contains information (in any media) that’s been created or gathered as a result of any aspect of the work of NHS employees.
